CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says a teen pointed a gun at someone during a basketball game earlier this month.
The incident happened on Thursday, July 18 at the Foundation of Shalom Park, a Jewish community center on Providence Road.
A gun was pulled out by one of the players -- later identified as Leonard Guy -- during a basketball at the center, according to an affidavit.
An officer at the location approached Guy, but he ran away toward the parking lot. The officer pointed his firearm at Guy and asked him to get down. Guy initially complied but later ran off, according to the affidavit.
The officer found a book bag at the location with Guy's name on it, the number 23, and an East Mecklenburg High School mascot logo. A school resource officer matched Guy to a profile on East Mecklenburg's basketball roster.
Guy, 18, was arrested on Tuesday. He is charged with having a gun on an educational property and resisting a police officer. Guy was released from jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
WCNC Charlotte reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to check Guy's status as a student or basketball player. In response, the district stated, "CMS cannot comment on requests for information on current or former students."
