CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ellen Miller is one of many tenants at Lamplighter Inn in west Charlotte who feels taken advantage of.
"We have a target on our back," said Miller.
It all started after hearing about a transitional housing program that aims to help those in need. That hope was quickly washed away after what Miller calls "months of dishonesty."
"We have been fighting with the hotel since then, there were a lot of questions about what's happening and what's going on," Miller said.
Miller said the number of critical repairs there is endless.
"Every single room here is damaged and not a little bit ceilings caving in toilets not working," Miller said.
Those concerns are continuing to be met with retaliation, according to Miller. The hotel's management has turned off the power and gas and is now prohibiting access to their rooms.
"The card reader that activates the keys to get in the room they took out of here," Miller said.
She said you have to find creative ways to keep your door open, or you have to break in. Residents also received a notice to vacate the property, but who sent the notice remains a mystery.

"There was no letterhead there were no names," Miller said.
They also received a flyer from the city informing the property is under new ownership, but records show the property is still under current ownership.
"They are doing this on purpose. He wants us out," Miller said.
Miller said they just want this cycle of lies and confusion to end, there are real families here just looking for a safe place to call home.
"We need something to happen, we need help," Miller said.
We have reached out to the current owner, and have yet to hear anything.
WCNC Charlotte also questioned Charlotte leaders.
Many of them are aware of what's happening, and we are currently waiting to hear back.
