Charlotte family displaced after house fire Thanksgiving morning

Firefighters said the fire caused around $63,000 in damage.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An east Charlotte family of eight is without a home after a fire broke out at their house early Thanksgiving morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday along Woodfield Drive, just off Barrington Drive, and found smoke showing from a home. A total of 30 firefighters worked to control the fire in 20 minutes.

No one was injured in the blaze, though a family of six adults and two children have since been displaced, firefighters said.

Investigators found the fire originated in an exterior trash can before spreading up a wooden fence and into the attic space of the home.

Firefighters said the fire caused around $63,000 in damage.
