CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was arrested on Friday after UNC Charlotte police officers conducted a traffic stop on campus and found a gun and marijuana in the man's car.
After a "short conversation" with the driver, campus police found the gun in the center console.
He was arrested, charged with possession of a firearm on educational property, possession of marijuana and a traffic-related offense.
The man, Brian Wise, was unaffiliated with the university and was trespassed, according to a spokesperson.
This is the third instance of a person being arrested for having a gun on that campus within the past two months.
The first incident happened in February, when 30-year-old Karim Ali was charged with possession of a gun on education property and carrying a concealed weapon.
While on foot patrol of Bioinformatics, a campus officer said he saw two people in the common area.
He said he saw a door being held open by a doorstop and the odor of marijuana coming from both people.
These two people were not affiliated with the school.
The officer said one of the people took off running. He searched the other person and found a gun in his pants pocket along with two loaded magazines.
That person, Ali, was arrested and sent to Mecklenburg County Jail. Officers said they could not find the person who ran away, but did find out that person had an active trespass order.
The second gun-related arrest happened two days later in February, when a woman was found trespassing with a gun on the campus.
The arrest happened after dispatch received a call about a woman sleeping in the lounge on the sixth floor of Miltimore Hall.
After verifying the woman had a trespass order on file, she was arrested and searched.
Cierrea Conley was charged with trespass and with having a gun on educational property.
