GASTONIA, N.C. — A woman and two men are facing several charges from multiple law enforcement agencies following a car chase through Gaston County on Thursday evening.
Gaston County Police said the chase, which sped through multiple cities in the county, ended when officers stopped a carjacking.
Gaston County Police arrested 23-year-old Jaquis Rahmad Smith, 19-year-old Bryan Quinterio and 20-year-old Madison Deon Jones.
Smith was wanted on multiple warrants out of Charlotte, Gaston County Police said, including, for allegedly stealing a car from an Enterprise Rent-A-Car dealership last month.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Lowell Police saw the car and began a chase along I-85.
Gaston County Police, along with help from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s helicopter and Dallas Police, continued to chase the car as it headed north along U.S. 321.
Smith, Quinterio and Jones jumped out of the car and ran after wrecking it near the intersection of U.S. 321 and N.C. 275.
Police said Quinterio was arrested in the parking lot of the Ingles grocery store near the intersection of U.S. 321 and N.C. 275 in Dallas.
Smith and Jones were arrested just minutes later near the Captain’s Quarters Apartments.
The department said Smith and Jones forced an elderly woman to begin driving them away from the scene before officers were able to stop the car and arrest them.
According to police, the woman was unharmed.
Smith faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, the department said, adding that he was already facing felony charges on a total of six warrants from Mecklenburg and Gaston counties.
Gastonia, Dallas, Lowell and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police departments are all involved in charging on the case.
