MATTHEWS, N.C. — Two people were seriously injured in a crash involving a train Wednesday in Matthews.
The crash happened at the railroad crossing on Trade Street in downtown Matthews.
Around 9:40 p.m., a freight train, operated by CSX Transportation, stuck the car near the crossing.
Two people inside the car suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, according to Medic. The two people Thursday were listed in critical but stable condition, according to the Matthews Police Department. No injuries were reported to the train crew.
CSX Transportation has not responded to a WCNC Charlotte for further information at this time.
An initial investigation has confirmed the railroad crossing lights, bell, and crossing arm were all operating correctly at the time of the crash, according to the Matthews Police Department.
