Trash truck slams into utility pole near Matthews

One person was seriously hurt in the crash, Medic said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A trash truck crashed into a utility pole and overturned near Idlewild Road Park in Matthews on Thursday morning, a spokesperson for Duke Energy told WCNC Charlotte.

One person was treated for serious injuries after the crash, according to Medic.

It happened just after 7 a.m. on Idlewild Road, which is expected to be closed in the area for about 2 hours following the crash. Crews will be directing traffic in the area when one lane opens.

It is unclear why the crash occurred.

Around seven homes appear to be without power in the area as of 9 a.m.
