Traveling for spring break? Here are some tips to save money

WCNC Charlotte shares a few ways to break without going broke.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you're packing up to head out anywhere for a spring break adventure or have any other travel plans Consumer Affairs has some tips that can help you save.

Whether you're getting on a flight or hopping on a train, pay close attention to where you're getting your tickets.

For the latest Where’s The Money news, download the WCNC Charlotte mobile app and enable push notifications.

Booking through third-party ticket websites may offer a discount but when it comes time for a refund or rebooking, it's usually a lot more difficult through these sites.

For your own protection, it's likely best to book directly through your preferred provider.

For those who prefer to take to the skies, don't avoid those early flights. Boarding early in the morning reduces your chances of delays or other mishaps.

Consumer Affairs also recommends that travelers avoid checking a bag whenever its possible.

If checking a bag is unavoidable, experts say to take pictures of everything that's inside checked bags.

In the event a bag gets lost, these photos can make it easier to file a claim.
