2-year-old boy hit, killed by car in Catawba County

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

MAIDEN, N.C. — A two-year-old was hit and killed by a car in Catawba County on Saturday night, according to the North Caroline State Highway Control. 

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Buffalo Shoals Road at Abernathy Williams Road.  

According to the NCSHP, a 2001 Saturn passenger car was traveling south on Buffalo Shoals Road and struck the child, who was in the roadway.

He was critically injured and transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he later died. 

 The driver of the Saturn was not injured and will not face any charges. 

 During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for about an hour.
