CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has released the autopsy reports for the two UNCC students killed back in April.
Ellis Parlier, 19, and Riley Howell, 21, were both shot and killed when a gunman walked into their exam room and opened fire.
The autopsy report for Riley Howell states he was shot 8 times including once at close range. Ellis Parlier was shot 6 times.
CMPD Chief Kerr Putney called Howell "the first hero" in response to the tragedy.
"Having no place to run and hide, he fought," Chief Putney said. "When I spoke to the father, one father to another, I told him personally, I wish I had words. What I did tell him is we're committed to the work. We're going to get to the bottom of it."
CMPD identified the students injured as 19-year-old Drew Pescaro, 20-year-old Rami Alramadhan, 23-year-old Emily Houpt and 20-year-old Sean DeHart. Dehart has been discharged from the hospital.
The suspect, 22-year-old, Trystan Tyrell was taken into custody Tuesday evening.
"There is absolutely no one else we're looking at," Chief Putney said regarding any other possible suspects.
Terrell was a history major at UNC Charlotte. Sources told NBC Charlotte he dropped out earlier this semester.
