Northeast Charlotte road reopens following deadly crash

Inbound lanes of University City Boulevard between North Tryon Street and Shopping Center Drive reopened just after 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A major University City road has reopened after a person was hit and killed early Wednesday morning, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. near the intersection of University City Boulevard and North Tryon Street, officers said. One person was hit and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Medic.

Inbound lanes of University City Boulevard between North Tryon Street and Shopping Center Drive were closed while an investigation took place, CMPD said. The road reopened around 8:45 a.m. 

Drivers were asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the road was closed.
