The chosen works will be on display at the Mint Museum's Uptown location for several months starting in December.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Calling all Southern artists: The Mint Museum is considering work for an upcoming exhibition.

The "Coined in the South: 2024" exhibition will feature the works of artists living or working in the Southern United States. That includes artists who were raised in, work in, or currently live in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

In order to be eligible, artists must submit work that has been created within the past two years, is non-perishable, does not generate excessive noise pollution, and does not cause harm to living beings. The Mint Museum is encouraging installations, videos, and performance art.

Interested artists can submit their work online; artists have until 11:59 p.m. on April 1 to apply. A $40 submission fee covers up to three works, and artists can pay an additional $10 for up to three more submissions.

You can stream WCNC Charlotte on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, just download the free app.

Finalists will be notified the week of June 28, and chosen artists will need to have their works delivered and ready to be installed between Aug. 1 and Nov. 1.

The Mint Museum and Young Affiliates of the Mint are collaborating to bring the juried exhibition to life.

An Atrium Health Foundation juror-awarded grand prize of $10,000 will be awarded to one artist, a Young Affiliates of the Mint member-awarded prize of $5,000 will be awarded to another artist, and a final artist will receive a $1,000 “People’s Choice” prize awarded by the public at the conclusion of the show.

The chosen works will be on display at the Mint Museum's Uptown location from Dec. 14, 2024, to April 27, 2025.
