CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lanes of North Graham Street between I-85 and Cannon Avenue were closed as Duke Energy worked to replace several utility poles on Friday.
A spokesperson for Duke Energy told WCNC Charlotte a large vehicle took out multiple lines and pulled them across the nearby railroad track. The crash knocked over several utility poles, as well.
At the time, the utility company's outage map showed over 600 people without power in the area. Duke Energy said all but five customers had their power restored as of 12:30 p.m.
The company worked to switch customers experiencing outages to another feed in order to restore their power.
Though most of the power problems are over for nearby residents, downed lines still impacted the evening commute.
Graham Street and the railroad will be closed into the evening.
Crews will stay on the scene to continue repairing the poles and lines. Poles, alone, generally take about 5-6 hours to replace, the spokesperson said.
WCNC Charlotte reached out to Norfolk to find out if any train operations could also be impacted.
