Body of man found in NC lake

An investigation is underway after officials said park visitors found the body of Presley Junior Jaynes.

MORGANTON, N.C. — An investigation is underway after visitors found the body of a man floating in Lake James, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office. 

The man was identified as 76-year-old Presley Junior Jaynes of Morganton. He was not reported to be alive when authorities found him in the lake.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office went to Lake James State Park around 8 p.m. on Friday after visitors saw Jaynes floating in the water.

A death investigation was launched and the investigation is ongoing. 

Multiple response teams came to help Lake James State Park Rangers, who were already on the scene.
