CORNELIUS, N.C. — Fire crews have found the body of someone who drowned on Lake Norman.
The search started Tuesday evening on Nautique Boulevard in Cornelius, which is right by the restaurant Hello Sailor. Officials said a person reportedly jumped from the cliffs at around 7:45 p.m., went underwater and never resurfaced.
Medic said fire crews stopped searching late Tuesday night, but officials restarted the search Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the Cornelius Police Department confirmed that the missing swimmer's body was recovered, requesting thoughts and prayers for the family. As of publication, the swimmer has not been publicly identified.
Several fire departments were involved in the search.
