WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — The Watauga Humane Society is asking for the public's help raising funds to support their spay and neuter work and food pantry.
To make a direct impact, “SNIPS,” which stands for “Spray / Neuter is a Positive Solution” of Watauga Humane Society is raising funds and awareness to support low-cost spay and neuter services, which can be expensive for pet parents.
There are many benefits of SNIPS. Spaying and neutering help control pet overpopulation. Experts say taking time to spay and neuter your pet helps prevent and reduce health issues and roaming tendencies.
Ashlee Yepez with the Watauga Humane Society says it also helps with "bad behavior issues such as barking or territorial behaviors and gives your pet a healthy life once you spay and neuter.”
“It’s purely volunteer ran, the group members do things such as create crafts, host dining days with local businesses and restaurants and sell plants through our local food hub," Yepez told WCNC Charlotte.
Along with the spay and neuter program, the Watauga Hume Society is also helping community members through their food pantry to keep pet families together in partnership with the Hunger and Health Coalition.
Yepez says the partnership with them is to redeem vouchers that supply pet food to homes and also to help supply food to their mobile food delivery systems so homebound pet owners can still get access to food.
To donate, the Watauga Humane Society is located on Paws Way in Boone. People can also donate online here.
People can also participate in the Dining Days, where local restaurants donate proceeds from food sales to the Humane Society. On May 17, Troys 105 Diner in Boone will be a participating restaurant.
