BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — Officials are investigating a house fire that spread into the woods in Blowing Rock late Thursday night.
Watauga County Emergency Services told WCNC Charlotte that the fire started at a home near Ski Acres Drive and Flat Top Road around 8:30 p.m. That's close to Appalachian Ski Mountain. Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including the Boone and Foscoe fire departments.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt during the incident. There were some small spot fires in the woods surrounding the home, but firefighters were able to contain the flames, avoiding any wildfires. The fire marshal said the home was a total loss.
Neighbors in the area confirmed no other homes were damaged by the fire. Watauga County officials confirmed the fire was contained to just one property, as many people were concerned about wildfires due to the home's location on the side of the mountain.
"It has been a devastating evening here, but no one has been injured, and no additional homes have been affected," Holly Helmig posted on Facebook.
Watauga County officials haven't determined what caused the fire. It remains under investigation.
