CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR Cup Series driver and Charlotte native William Byron returned from Dover International Speedway to host his 4th annual charity golf tournament. The tournament raised $300,000 benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas.
Q: What goes into putting this event together?
A: It's a lot of hard work behind the scenes with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas. It's definitely a huge deal. It's something that's close to my heart. My sister and I were Bigs growing up in high school and definitely an important aspect of giving back to the community here.
Q: What makes you want to get up early on a Monday after a race weekend to give back to the community?
A: Mondays are perfect for everyone to come out and give a lot of support. We're sold out this year, so that's a big deal.
Q: What does it mean to you to have so many people come out and support?
A: It's great. It's a credit to a lot of hard work behind the scenes. There's a lot of people behind the scenes that work on this tournament for months. I'm just the lucky guy that gets to show up and play golf and talk about it. It's been really nice to have their support and fund the whole thing. Mr. Hendrick there a last minute donation in that was really generous, so I'm grateful for that too.
The $300,000 raised at the 4th annual William Byron Charity Golf Tournament was an event record, bringing the four-year total to over $1 million.
