Woman killed by train in Charlotte

Police officers found the 36-year-old next to railroad tracks near West Summit Avenue.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman has died after being hit by a train in Charlotte on Friday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

 The fatal crash happened at 9:18 a.m. near West Summit Avenue.

Officers found a woman who was unresponsive, next to the railroad tracks. 

Midaina Marrero, 36, was pronounced dead on the scene. Police officials said Marrero was likely walking on the railroad tracks when she was hit by a train.

The investigation into this crash is still ongoing. 

The police department said it will provide more information as it becomes available. It is asking any person who witnessed the crash or has information to call 704-432-2169, Ext. 1.
