Charlotte man scores $100,000 lottery prize

A Charlotte man took a chance on a $30 lottery ticket and it paid off in a big way as he scored a $100,000 prize.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte man scored a $100,000 lottery prize when he took a chance on a scratch-off game, lottery officials said. 

Jorge Meraz Mendez bought his lucky $5,000,000 Ultimate ticket from the BP on Yorkmont Road in Charlotte. When he scratched it off, Meraz Mendez won $100,000. 

He collected his prize at North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on Monday. After taxes, Meraz Mendez brought home $65,500. 

The $5,000,000 Ultimate game debuted in March 2023 with five top prizes of $5 million and 15 $100,000 prizes. Three top prizes remain to be claimed and five $100,000 tickets still available.
