LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A Lincolnton woman says she plans to use her $4 million lottery prize to help her grandkids.
Rachel Sadler purchased a $30 ticket for the new Supreme 7s scratch-off game from Save Mart in Lincolnton last Tuesday. North Carolina Education Lottery officials say she's the first person to claim one of the game's $4 million top prizes.
"I've got a bunch of grandkids," Sadler said. "I want to make sure they have a nice future."
Sadler said it was her first time playing the Supreme 7s game. And there wasn't any gut instinct that told her to buy the ticket.
"I guess I just liked the blue and white color," she said. "I think I'm still in a state of shock."
Sadler opted to collect her prize as a $2.4 million lump sum instead of a 20-year annuity of $200,000. After taxes, she took home $1.7 million, lottery officials said.
The Supreme 7s game debuted in July with four $4 million top prizes. Three remain to be claimed, as well as nine $100,000 prizes.
