CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ninth District congressional candidate, Dan McCready admitted today that he had spoken with top Democratic leaders about a possible run against Republican Senator, Thom Tillis who is up for reelection next year.
McCready is currently running for a seat in the House against Republican State Senator, Dan Bishop.
At an event in Mint Hill, McCready was unveiling his ten-point plan to lower prescription drug prices, he confirmed that he had met in Washington, D.C. with Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer to discuss a possible race against Tillis.
“I did meet with him but I’ve also been very clear that I’m not running for the Senate,” McCready said
McCready said the Democrats have to get the right candidate, but added it won’t be him.
“I think its really important that the Democrats have a very strong nominee to challenge Thom Tillis,” McCready said.
McCready’s proposal to lower drug prices includes among other things, using Medicare’s purchasing power to save billions of dollars and restrictions on marketing to doctors.
“Health care costs too much and the politicians who are in the pocket of big pharma are doing nothing about it,” McCready said.
McCready accused Bishop of voting in the State Senate against a measure that would allow pharmacists to talk with consumers about cheaper alternative drugs.
“State Senator Bishop will not tell us why he was the only politician in the legislature to vote with big pharma and against every single North Carolina family,” stated McCready.
The National Republican Congressional Committee later accused McCready of being a hypocrite, saying that less than six months after announcing his run for Congress, McCready and his wife sold $350,000 in big pharma stock.
