CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of Palestinians came to Charlotte's First Ward Park before matching through Uptown Sunday afternoon to show support for their homeland and call for an end to the violence in Gaza.
The rally was held as the weeklong war between Israel and Hamas captured their loved ones in the middle of conflict. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 2,670 Palestinians have been killed and many more seriously injured in the war. Israel officials reported that more than 1,400 Israelis were killed when Hamas attacked them two weekends ago.
Supporters waved flags and held banners and signs protesting the violence. A man with a microphone led the group to the corner of Trade and Tryon streets, shouting words of support for his home country.
This was just one of many rallies held across the country over the weekend as Israel continued to bomb Gaza following the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.
Most of the people at the protest said they are hoping that counties around the world, including the United States can place pressure on Israel to stop bombing Gaza.
