RALEIGH, N.C. — Three men were sentenced to prison after a NCAA recruit scandal came to light. The scandal involved Adidas and a number of college basketball programs, including NC State University.
The judge in the case said he wanted to send a big warning to the basketball world.
The three men were involved with paying families to get some of college basketball's top recruits to Adidas sponsored schools.
One of the schools named was NC State.
According to report, an Adidas consultant said he paid an NC State assistant $40,000 to get former Wolfpack star Dennis Smith Jr. to commit.
The men sentenced to jail time were an executive and a consultant for Adidas, as well as a business manager
They were released on appeal bonds and all plan to appeal their convictions.
