ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A man wanted in connection with a homicide that happened in the Alexander County community of Hiddenite was arrested Sunday, police said.
According to the Alexander County Sheriff's Office, Antonio Castillo was wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Blade McKinley Campbell. Campbell's body was found by deputies a little before noon Sunday morning after he was shot multiple times.
Deputies said they believe Campbell and Castillo were in a fight when Castillo pulled out a pistol and shot Campbell to death. A car that Castillo was driving was spotted by deputies in Taylorsville around 4 p.m. Sunday. A few minutes later, officers located Castillo at a home on Jessica Lee Lane.
Deputies said Castillo took off through a field before he was arrested. When officers captured Castillo, they found two bags containing an AR-15 rifle along with multiple rounds of ammunition. The AR-15 was not used during the shooting of Campbell, according to the sheriff's office.
Castillo was charged with murder and is being held in the Alexander County jail without bond.
