HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The Huntersville Fire Department reports one person was killed and two others were injured in a single vehicle accident on I-77 Northbound.
According to Huntersville Fire the accident happened after Exit 23. Officials report a car departed the roadway, traveled behind the guard rail and struck a metal pole.
There were three people in the car at the time of the crash. Troopers report the driver of the Chevy Impala was killed on impact. The two passengers in the car were transported to Atrium Health. One passenger was in stable condition at the time of being transported, the other passenger, Jazmyne Taggart, is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
For a few hours, Northbound I-77 traffic was diverted to the toll lanes while the general purpose lanes were closed. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
