Homicide investigation underway in north Charlotte, police say

CMPD said there is a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has died after being shot in north Charlotte, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed.

A homicide investigation is now underway in the 1200 block of West Sugar Creek Road.

CMPD said at this time they believe there was only one victim. No one is currently in custody.

The call for service came in at 3:53 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, CMPD said. Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service, and a Medic unit was in the area.

Medic found a man with an apparent gunshot wound on the side of the road. He was transported to Atrium Main where he was pronounced deceased.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Tyshawn Izayiah Rodney Levar Boyd. His family has been notified of his death.

According to Major Cam Selvey, who is in charge of the homicide unit, a lot of people were present in the area that day who might have information.

“I have every reason to believe they’re going to be able to make an arrest in that case,” Selvey said.

Selvey added there's a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.
