CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte city leaders are considering some changes to their 2025 spending plan.
Charlotte City Council members are raising concerns over the city's 1.5 cent property tax increase. The increase is expected to cost the average Charlotte homeowner about $54 per year.
At a budget hearing Monday night, Council Member Tariq Bokhari asked other city leaders to consider lowering the amount. Now, the city manager will have to come up with an alternative option.
City leaders also discussed adding another $1 million for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The money would be used for officer raises, shields, and active shooter kits.
In total, officials made around $23 million in budget adjustments.
Leaders are expected to vote on the changes next Thursday.
