The area at the center of the Congressional District 9 controversy -- Bladen County -- hosted a packed town hall meeting to discuss voter fraud allegations.
The congressional race has been at a standstill ever since the Board of Elections decided not to certify the results.
Republican Mark Harris beat Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes, but controversy over handling of absentee ballots in Bladen County prompted the state Board of Elections to delay certification of the results.
WCNC has learned that more than 3,000 absentee ballots in Bladen County were requested but never returned.
More voters have said that when they showed up to the polls to vote, they were told they already voted absentee.
There wasn't an empty seat in the First Baptist Church on Tuesday night, December 18.
It was the people's turn to speak and be heard. Their message was one of outrage and heartache over the massive election fraud investigation, gripping the small town of Bladenboro North Carolina.
“How long is it going to take for folks to believe us when we tell them someone has done something,” one speaker said.
Voters said their ballots were illegally collected, and have been in past elections.
“A young man told me [it] had to have a witness so he would have to take the unsealed ballots with him for someone to sign,” one woman shared.
State election leaders are investigating whether hundreds of absentee ballots were illegally cast or stolen in the 9th Congressional District.
Local county commissioners are demanding proof, however.
Some say they are losing trust in a system they fear is working to suppress the black vote.
The North Carolina board of elections has chosen not to certify Harris at the winner at this point. This is an intense investigation that could very well lead to a new election in this district.
