NORTH CAROLINA, USA — North Carolina's Republican primary election runoffs were held Tuesday. While there were no runoff elections for the Democratic primaries, there were some state and federal Republican primary runoffs, as well as a local runoff in Gaston County.
The lieutenant governor's GOP runoff was between Hal Weatherman and Jim O’Neill, while the nomination for state auditor was between Jack Clark and Dave Boliek. Kelly Daughtry and Brad Knott are seeking the 13th District nomination.
The winners will face Democratic rivals — and in some cases Libertarian Party candidates — in the fall.
A GOP primary runoff was also conducted for a Gaston County commissioner's seat. There's also a race to fill a seat on the nonpartisan Orange County Board of Education that had different runoff rules.
WCNC Charlotte has your results for Tuesday's runoff elections.
Lieutenant governor - Hal Weatherman
Hal Weatherman handily won the Republican runoff for Lieutenant Governor over Jim O'Neill. Weatherman will face the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, Rachel Hunt, from the Charlotte area, in November.
State auditor - Dave Boliek
Dave Boliek narrowly won the Republican nomination for state auditor over opponent Jack Clark. Boliek will compete against the current state auditor, Democratic candidate Jessica Holmes, in November.
13th Congressional District - Brad Knott
Brad Knott won the Republican nomination for the 13th Congressional District over Kelly Daughtry. Knott will face Democratic nominee Frank Pierce in November's General election. However, the Republican nominee is heavily favored to win this district after it was redrawn and Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Wiley Nickel announced he would not run for reelection in the redrawn district.
Gaston County commissioner - Jim Bailey
Jim Bailey beat incumbent Ronnie Worley in the Republican runoff for a Gaston County commissioner seat that represents South Point. Since there is no Democratic challenger, Bailey will likely win the seat.
