'Best job in public service' | Rep. Jeff Jackson on his run to be NC Attorney General

On Flashpoint, Jackson says he'll continue using social media to share his viewpoints if elected.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Democratic Rep. Jeff Jackson says being North Carolina's Attorney General would be a dream job.

"This would fill any sense of ambition that I have, because it is probably the best job in public service," Jackson said, appearing on WCNC's Flashpoint.

Current Attorney General Josh Stein is running to be Governor. And Jackson, a former prosecutor, was essentially drawn out of his current U.S. House district by North Carolina's new congressional maps.

Earlier this fall, the Charlotte Democrat announced a run for Attorney General.

"It's just about standing up for people. That's a great job," he said.

Jackson said he thinks the state's top law enforcement job should be apolitical.

"It's not supposed to be a partisan job.  It's supposed to be a nonpartisan job," he said.

Jackson has attracted the national spotlight for his large and loyal following on social media, where he explains complicated legislative issues in easy-to-understand clips.

He currently has 2.5M followers on TikTok. He has garnered some criticism for using the app owned by the Chinese government.

"I do an update and I post it to seven or eight different platforms, TikTok being one of them. TikTok happens to be where most of my constituents are watching. And I think if it's going to exist, we should use it for good," Jackson said.

And Jackson said he plans to keep the posts coming if he's elected Attorney General.

"Absolutely!"
