CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has postponed his North Carolina campaign stops for this week due to weather impacts expected from Tropical Storm Debby.
The Raleigh and Oakboro rallies are expected to be rescheduled, but official dates have not been announced yet.
It comes as former President Donald Trump's campaign rallies voters in the Tar Heel State.
Vance was set to make two stops in North Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 5, including one at Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co. in Stanly County. Vance was also scheduled to appear in Raleigh.
Vice President Kamala Harris was also expected to visit Raleigh on Thursday with the vice presidential pick. On Monday evening, her campaign announced that Thursday's visit had been postponed due to Tropical Storm Debby.
Vance has appeared at numerous campaign events since getting the nod to be Trump's running mate in 2024. Recent polls indicate the race has tightened since President Joe Biden announced he was ending his reelection bid.
Thursday's visit would have been Vance's first time in North Carolina since joining Trump's campaign. The former president won North Carolina in 2016 and 2020, though his margin in 2020 shrunk to less than 1.5%, the tightest of any state that Trump won during his reelection campaign.
