CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte has a new city manager, who will be officially voted in on Wednesday.

Sources with the City of Charlotte tell NBC Charlotte that Marcus D. Jones, currently the city manager for the City of Norfolk, Virginia, has accepted the same position here in the Queen City.

According to Jones' bio on the City of Norfolk website, his focus is building a well-managed government, which is a "data-driven organization that provides effective and efficient programs and services that are responsive, accountable, inclusive and customer focused."

Charlotte City Council will meet in an open session Wednesday to consider Jones' candidacy. Community members are invited to attend.

A source tells NBC Charlotte that Jones' resignation was announced Tuesday night at the Norfolk City Council meeting.
