'It's a big deal': Steph Curry backs Kamala Harris for president

The Charlotte native voiced his support for Harris, less than a week after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NBA star Steph Curry endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, saying he's returning the favor for years of support from Harris.

Curry was asked about the endorsement during a media availability in Paris. The Charlotte native is representing the U.S. in the Olympics for the first time in his illustrious career.

"Yeah a very interesting time for our country," Curry said. "Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign and hopefully, if she's on the ticket, winning the election. It's a big deal, to say the least. She represents the Bay Area, she's been a big supporter of us and I want to give that energy back to her."

Harris is the frontrunner to be the Democratic nominee in November after President Joe Biden ended his campaign last weekend. She's gained widespread support from Democrats, including endorsements from Biden and former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama

"This is a monumental next couple of months for our country," Curry said. "Hopefully this is a great way to do our part to continue unifying the country. Sports brings a lot of people together and for her, in this moment knowing what's ahead, it's about positive energy and optimism."
