NC Auditor Beth Wood to resign following new charge over use of state-owned vehicles

Beth Wood, the four-term state auditor who was charged this week with using a publicly owned car for personal errands, plans to resign effective Dec. 15.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Beth Wood, the embattled state auditor who was charged this week with using publicly owned vehicles for personal errands, plans to resign before the end of her term.

The decision caps a stunning yearlong fall for the Democrat who has earned bipartisan support for her work as a government watchdog, ensuring public resources are used appropriately over four terms.

In a statement to WRAL News, Wood said she would step down on Dec. 15 after 30 years of service to the state.
