Over $360 million coming to NC for water infrastructure improvements, Tillis announces

Nearly half of the funding will be eligible for grants or forgiveness loans, ensuring the money reaches underserved communities that need it most.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina will receive more than $361 million for drinking water and clean water infrastructure upgrades, Sen. Thom Tillis announced on Friday.

The funding was part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, according to Tillis. The money will support essential water infrastructure that protects public health and North Carolina's bodies of water. Tillis announced that almost half of the funding will be available as grants or forgiveness loans, ensuring the money reaches underserved communities most in need of the upgrades.

“This grant will give our communities the tools they need to ensure all North Carolinians have access to clean, safe drinking water they need and deserve,” Tillis said in a news release.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has invested more than $537 million into water projects across North Carolina. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was signed into law in November of 2021. The deal, which was promoted at the time as an example of what bipartisanship can achieve, secured a trillion dollars for the nation's infrastructure.
