Time Warner Cable to offer free WiFi during the DNC

Time Warner Cable announced Friday morning it will offer free wireless internet hotspots in uptown Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Time Warner Cable announced Friday morning it will offer free wireless internet hotspots in uptown Charlotte during the Democratic National Convention.

TWC said it is investing more than $2 million in enhancements that will allow everyone free WiFi between August 27 and September 7.

Time Warner Cable is using its advanced technology to enable a more connected experience for everyone during the Democratic National Convention and for everyone living, working or visiting our city over the long term, said executive vice president of operations Carol Hevey.

The hot spots are available around Center City, South End, Myers Park, Dilworth and Midtown.

Outside of the 10-day DNC window for free service, those who are not Time Warner Cable customers can purchase pay-as-you go options starting at $2.95 per hour. Starting Friday, those who have standard or higher internet service as well as business class internet customers can access the hot spots for free by entering their TWC email and password.

Customers can find the hot spots on the Android or iOS mobile device platforms by searching for WiFi with a WiFi Finder App.

TWC said it will have more than 100,000 hot spots nationwide by the end of 2012.
