Smithfield police are investigating the matter but tell NBC Charlotte that a blade wasn't found after canvassing the area.

Siler City police responded to NBC Charlotte about this incident after our story aired.
The police chief said the department is investigating the blade found at the gas station, but after viewing surveillance footage, the chief said there is no evidence to support that the razor blade was ever on the gas pump handle. The three incidents now have drivers and customers across North Carolina on alert.
"Now that it has happened I would always, you know, check the handles, check everything, even your car doors,” Thomas Tarrant, a driver, said.
Police in Siler City and Smithfield do not believe any of the incidents are connected.
