SILER CITY, N.C. — Two people were killed Friday after a small plane crashed near the Siler City Municipal Airport in Chatham County, according to the State Highway Patrol.
The plane crashed at 12:50 p.m. near the airport at 80 Aviation Drive, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
According to Broadcastify radio traffic, emergency crews found the plane on fire in the woods near the airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the plane that crashed was a Piper PA-28-140, which can either seat two or four people.
Flight Aware shows the plane's track ended in a wooded area near the airport at 12:45 p.m.
