RALEIGH, N.C. — The Food And Drug Administration released an advisory warning for consumers to not buy a product of fruit puree pouches Saturday afternoon after a study found elevated levels of lead in them, according to a report from WRAL.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the FDA is warning consumers to not buy or feed WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches to toddlers or young children.
The announcement comes after a joint investigation by the NCDHHS, local health departments, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the FDA.
According to NCDHHS, the pouches were identified as a potential shared source of exposure following several cases of elevated blood lead levels in children in western NC.
