MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) -- The hometown of the late actor Andy Griffith is wrapping up an annual celebration with a special tribute to him.
The Mayberry Days celebration in Mount Airy ends Sunday with a tribute featuring local musicians playing Griffith's Grammy-winning gospel hymns.
The 86-year-old actor was born in Mount Airy and lived in Manteo. He died in July, a day after suffering a heart attack.
Griffith was best known for playing Sheriff Andy Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show, which aired from 1960 to 1968.
More than a half-century after the series first aired, fans are still coming to Mount Airy, looking for a glimpse of small-town life and the simpler times portrayed on the show.
