When NC's ski season could start this year

Appalachian Ski Mountain's 2023 ski season has been delayed from its scheduled start date of Nov. 17.

Appalachian Ski Mountain announced it will delay this season's start. It was scheduled to begin Friday, Nov. 17, but it's still too warm to make snow. It's unclear when the resort expects to begin making snow for the upcoming season.

Sugar Mountain, another popular skiing destination in North Carolina, has also pushed back its opening day. With warm weather making snow production impossible, the ski slopes could see their latest opening date yet. The current record for the latest opening at Sugar Mountain is Nov. 27, which was set in 2009. On the bright side, that same winter was the snowiest in recent history with 136 inches at the resort.
