CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A South Carolina woman was arrested at Charlotte Douglas International Airport for having a loaded .22 Magnum revolver in her carry-on bag, according to to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon at Checkpoint A. Shannon Callahan, 44, was charged with possession of a firearm on city property.
This was the 17th firearm detected at the airport this year. Last year, TSA agents discovered 68 firearms.
TSA reminded travelers they are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition. The firearm must be taken to the airline check-in counter.
TSA said airlines may have additional requirements for traveling with firearms and ammunition, so travelers should contact their airline.
