CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Vance High School was placed on a brief lockdown Monday afternoon following a large fight on campus, officials report.
Students told NBC Charlotte the fight started inside and then spilled out into the courtyard.
18 potential suspects have been identified. Officials are trying to determine what charges, if any, will be filed.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said they do not believe there was a gun on campus. As a precaution, security presence was increased on campus Tuesday.
The school was placed on a brief lockdown before students were dismissed for the day by classroom.
CMS has released the following statement regarding the incident:
This is Principal Carroll with an important message. Our school was on lockdown this afternoon due to an incident on campus. Law enforcement investigated the incident. Any student violating the Code of Student Conduct will be disciplined according to the code. Thank you for your support of Vance High.
