CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Blue Ridge Parkway has reopened an additional six miles in NC and 17 miles in Virginia.
North Carolina: Milepost 405.5, near NC Route 151, to Milepost 411.8, at NC Route 276. This extends an open section of the Parkway announced earlier this week from milepost 411.8 to 421.
The park said campgrounds, picnic areas, and other visitor services in this newly opened section of the park are closed for the 2024 season.
The area north of milepost 405.5 remains closed for all uses due to a significant landslide at milepost 401.6.
For those going to see the fall color, there is a plan on its website. The park expects high visitation now that more of the park has reopened to the public.
Ongoing storm recovery may mean local routes adjacent to the parkway remain impacted. Visitors should plan carefully and check the status of roads outside the park before driving to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Some roads remain closed or are damaged.
