RODANTHE, N.C. — A beach in Rodanthe is temporarily closed after an unoccupied house collapsed on Surf Side Drive, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The unoccupied house at 23241 Surf Side Drive in Rodanthe collapsed during the overnight hours of Nov. 14 to Nov. 15.
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore said efforts to respond and start cleanup operations are limited due to severe weather conditions and the closure of NC Highway 12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.
Unoccupied structures at G A Kohler Court and Sea Oats Drive are being monitored by Cape Hatteras National Seashore. They said they are in communication with the owner of 23241 Surf Side Drive.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore is urging visitors to avoid the beach and ocean for “potentially many miles” to the south of Rodanthe.
Six houses have collapsed in Rodanthe since May, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
