MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — A suspect has been killed in an officer-involved shooting in Mount Holly, Mount Holly police chief confirmed.
The incident happened in the 300 block of Dutchman’s Meadow Drive, officials say.
MHPD responded to a domestic violence service call around 6:45 a.m., upon arrival, officers discover that a fire had broken out in an upstairs bedroom.
Police said they made contact with the suspect and shot him.
A witness told NBC Charlotte he woke up to the sound of fire engines. When he went out outside, Mount Holly police ordered him to get back in the house.
The witness said he then saw a man jump from a window of the burning house with a sword. Police have not confirmed this.
Wade Jones, a neighbor, spoke to NBC Charlotte about the incident. He said he saw an officer, who he believed was armed.
"He said, 'I advise everybody to go back in the house, a guy jumped out a back window with a sword and we are looking for him,'" Jones said. "So I just stood on my back porch and kind of watched for a few minutes, and kept checking the woods to see if i saw anyone carrying a sword."
Mount Holly Police have not confirmed the details of any weapon involved.
Officers said there were no other injuries reported and have not released the cause of the fire.
