CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As voting is underway in the Carolinas we’re getting some questions from viewers. Many polling places have signs regarding phone use at the polls, which can be confusing some voters. WCNC Charlotte is able to get verified answers for these questions to clear up the confusion.

Can you have phones with you while you are voting?
THE ANSWER:
You can have your phone on you while visiting a voting area.
THE QUESTION:
Can you use your phone while you’re in the booth to talk to other people?
THE ANSWER:
No, you can not use your phone to communicate with anyone via voice, text, email, or any other method while in the voting booth.
THE QUESTION:
Can you use your phone to look up candidate information or a sample ballot?
THE ANSWER:
Yes, this is allowed. Voters are allowed to bring guides, notes, and other materials into the voting booths. They can also look on their phones to access any information they need to vote.
However, you cannot take a photo while in the voting booth. But once you leave the booth and get outside you are allowed to take a picture of you and your "I voted" sticker to show it off to friends and family.
