CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With Thursday's officer-involved shooting, WCNC Charlotte decided to look into how often shootings involving Charlotte police officers happen in Charlotte.

WHAT WE FOUND:
In 2023, there were eight officer-involved shootings in Charlotte. That is up 60% from 2022 when there were five officer-involved shootings.
- 2021-5
- 2020-1
- 2019-6
This is the first officer-involved shooting this year. Just a few months ago, in December 2023, there was a previous one in the same general area of Charlotte, but that one was counted in the 2023 total.
