North Carolina absentee ballot questions answered

If you do not receive your absentee ballot in time, you have a few options.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The deadline to request your absentee ballot for the 2024 election has passed. Now, it's time to get it filled out and returned.

But with mail getting delivered slower than it used to be, some North Carolinians are wondering what will happen if you didn't receive an absentee ballot in time.

Dickerson said if you do not receive your absentee ballot in time you have a few options to make sure your vote is counted.

You can still vote in person on Election Day using the absentee ballot. If you get it the day of the election, you can fill it out and hand it to election officials in person. This must go directly to your county’s elections office. It can’t be turned into your precinct where you normally vote.

However, absentee ballots can be turned into early voting sites before early voting ends on Saturday, Nov. 2.

If you are voting by using an absentee ballot, a reminder that those ballots need to be returned by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. If the ballot comes in after that, it will not be counted.
